This
is my favourite dog book and is simply the best dog book I have read!
It is relevant for both the novice and the experienced dog owner. Jean Donaldson looks at the relationship between man and dog and discusses many of the anthropomorphic misconceptions about dogs. If you want to understand and have a better relationship with your dog, then you have to read this book. An absolute must for anyone interested in dogs! |
This is a fantastic book to read. With plenty of anectdotes and humour, you will not be able to put it down. The book discusses how humans are perceived by dogs and how we can change our behaviour to get the best out of our dogs. It suggests some games that you can play with your dog to get him to do what you want. Patricia McConnell is an animal behaviourist and zoology professor specialising in dog behavioral problems. She writes clearly and bases her well-structured arguments on research and observation. |

Collins Good Dog Behaviour

A very
useful book if you are a puppy owner or are thinking of getting a puppy.
The book covers the dog’s developmental stages, practical solutions
on living with your puppy, housetraining, good manners, how to control
problem behaviour, practical exercises on training and a socialisation
programme. Clear step by step photographs illustrate many of the exercises.
A must for all puppy owners. If you have an adult or adolescent dog, then look at Gwen Bailey’s ‘Good Dog Behaviour’ |
This is a good introduction to dog behaviour and training. The book has some information on the different breeds, dog communication, how dogs learn and clearly illustrated step by step training exercises. It also has a brief introduction to the most common dog behavioural problems. |

Dr Ian Dunbar pretty much invented puppy socialisation classes and emphasised the importance of early learning in puppies. In this first book, he discusses the search and selection of a suitable puppy, how to assess its developmental status and teaching household manners during the puppy’s first week at home. Worth investing in this book if you are a new puppy owner. You will be so hooked that you’ll also want his second book. |
This book discusses the second
part of your puppy’s socialisation period. The book goes into detail
about household manners, on leaving your puppy alone for the first time,
socialisation with people, bite inhibition and basic training.
His entertaining style in writing and practical tips, makes this book very readable and worth getting even if your dog is no longer a puppy. |
